Fred Lo Science Symposium

Event Overview

The Fred Lo Science Symposium will begin by celebrating the life and career of former NRAO Director Fred Lo, the afternoon of Monday, July 24, 2017. The Science Symposium will continue over the following day and a half and feature a series of invited and contributed talks on the status of the various areas of radio astronomy that were of particular interest to Fred.

This conference will focus on science topics related to Fred's work including interstellar masers, resolving radio emission from the Galactic Center black hole, HI and molecular gas in our Galaxy and in nearby galaxies, CO in high-redshift quasars, disk megamasers, accurate masses of black holes, the Hubble constant, and dark energy.

The 5th U.S./China Workshop on Radio Astronomy Science & Technology will be held immediately following the Fred Lo Science Symposium from 27-29 July 2017 in the same location.

The Science and Technology Workshop will continue the discussions and planning held in previous years to support collaborations in joint scientific programs as well as cooperation in planning, building, and commissioning new facilities and instrumentation.

Celebration of Fred's Life and Work

July 24, 2017, 3 p.m. followed by a reception

Abbott Center Auditorium, UVA Inn at Darden, 10 Duffy Boulevard, Charlottesville, VA

The program beginning at 3pm will feature a number of invited talks by some of Fred's friends and colleagues from various stages of his long and successful career.  All are invited to stay for the reception immediately after the talks.
