5th US/China Workshop on Radio Astronomy Science and Technology

Thursday, July 27 - 29, 2017
UVA Inn at Darden | Charlottesville, VA

Event Overview

We are pleased to announce the fifth in a series of China-U.S. radio astronomy workshops.  The workshop will take place in Charlottesville, VA at the UVA Inn at Darden on July 27-29, 2017.

The workshop will build on the discussions and planning held in previous years to support collaborations in joint scientific programs.  It will also establish opportunities for cooperation in planning, building, and commissioning new facilities and instrumentation. Potential joint observing programs will include the Very Long Baseline Array, the TianMa 65m radio telescope, the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), and other existing and planned U.S. and Chinese facilities. Technical discussions will include the proposed 110m QiTai radio Telescope (QTT), handling big data, space Very Long Baseline Interferometry, and backends.

The 5th US/China Workshop will immediately follow the Fred Lo Science Symposium which begins on the afternoon of Monday, July 24, 2017. The Science Symposium celebrates the life and career of former NRAO Director Fred Lo with a focus on the various areas of radio astronomy that were of particular interest to Fred.

You must register for the symposium separately from the 5th US/China Workshop. Go to: go.nrao.edu/FredLoSymp for more information.
